Retaliation in Prisons
If you read the thread about the canteen, this kinda follows up on what happens later. I mentined that I would be kicked out (shipped) from Tyrrell to Sanford, here is the journal I wrote about it after the fact. This is a perfect example of what prisons will do to get rid of a "troublemaker": Dec 1st- Have to rehash events from Tuesday (Nov 28th) to now. On Tues. I was told about 3:30 pm to pack my bags; that I'll be transferred. There was no need to argue; it wouldn't change anything. I went back and packed, then thought to ask if I'll need to keep anything overnight. That's when they told me I'd be shipping today. Strange, shipping days are Tues and Thurs. Inmates are informed Mon and Wed nights; why wasn't I if they knew I'd be shipping, UNLESS they didn't PLAN on me being shipped. At any rate, I packed and by 6:00pm I was on the van with another guy (Fox) heading to Sanford. The ride took 3 1/2 hours, and I got here about 9:30pm. The next day (WED) I was called to the kitchen and was assigned to the dining room. Now, let's look CLOSER at what happened: We know now that Sanford actually swapped with Tyrrell. From what I heard, they shipped 2 out; those two I saw at Tyrrell in intake. They swapped for 2, although I'd say one, since Fox was shipped for a court appearance. The camps traded kitchen workers, but if what I heard is true, those 2 should be going to seg. In any case, Tyrrell furnishes Sanford with a void; they need kitchen help. But why me? It's logical to believe that camps would swap skilled workers, like cooks and bakers. But potwashers? That's not a skilled position, and even if it was, that's not what I'm doing here anyway. I am now a dining room attendant. Second, I never put a transfer in, why ship me when there had to have been 20 guys in the kitchen that would have jumped at the chance to ship, and easily 1/2 the camp wold have jumped at the chance to ship out of Tyrrell. Consider the number of inmates that live in or near Raleigh, Durham and the surrounding area? So let's put it together, an inmate at an unskilled position with no transfer leaves with little notice to go to a camp, presumatively to fill the same position, but doesn't. Why? I assume that Tyrrell will justify the move as purely a kitchen swap, but I see more. The two that went to Tyrrell may well be in seg; the guy that came with me went to court. Now look closer; I've written over 10 grievances, countless letters to public officials, DOC, IGRB, NCPLS and others. Just before Thanksgiving I started firing letters to DOC officials without postage; Tyrrell never told me thta I could; I found it in the Administrative code (that inmates can write to prison officials without postage). Less than a week later, I'm here at Sanford. THAT'S is the reason (along with the content of my letters) I'm here. Tyrrell wanted to get rid of me. I'll have to send a plethora of letters on this scenario. This happens much more than you think in prisons. If a prison cannot defend their actions on something they did, they simply ship the inmate to another camp. This was the second time I was shipped in short order; I would soon be shipped from Sanford to segregation on trumphed charges that I eventually beat, but was sent to Robeson. I would be kicked out of Robeson to Dan River, and I believe if I wasn't so close to my release, they would have kicked me out too. Prisons do not want to release any fraction of their authority over inmates. I am not talking about the authority the have as officers of the prison, I am talking about going past respect for inmates. This is what makes prisons so difficult at times; the fact that rules are not applied fairly to and for inmates. When prisons are challenged, you see the reality that most don't care for inmates, and will lie or twist the truth rather than admit that maybe, just maybe the inmate has a valid point. Be aware of your loved ones mentioning this to you; it is a real situation, It is not as troubling as an inmate in danger of being hurt, but his integrity is at stake when he is challenged. If he is right, stand by him. If you don't know the facts, get the facts, and then stand stronger by your loved one. I assure you, it matters..
